Since some people wanted an easy way of using soulseek on Mac OS X i made this file, which actually is a stripped-down compile of nicotine using fink.

What you need to run this:

-Mac OS X 10.2.X or higher
-X11 windows ** if you use panther you can download it for free at apple´s website
** 10.2 users i.e. http://public.planetmirror.com/pub/apple/MacOSX/X11/

There are 2 scenarios to install this:

1) You never heard of fink or never installed it:

This is pretty easy

-just unzip the file and move the folder named "sw" to the root !! of your HD
-open X11 click on Application, then customize, then add item
-double click on left half and enter a name (supposedly nicotine)
-double click on right half and enter this text "/sw/bin/python2.3 /sw/bin/nicotine"
-that´s all, adjust some parameters (esp. username/password and location of shared folders and you are ready to connect)

2) You have an existing install of fink:

Ok this is a bit more tricky

-if you just want to quickly use soulseek on your mac without screwing old fink installations, rename your original fink folder to "swold" and move the unzipped folder "sw" to the root of your HD
-open X11 click on Application, then customize, then add item
-double click on left half and enter a name (supposedly nicotine)
-double click on right half and enter this text "/sw/bin/python2.3 /sw/bin/nicotine"
-that´s all, adjust some parameters (esp. username/password and location of shared folders and you are ready to connect)
-you can always switch back to the old fink by renaming those 2 folders


(for the hazardous: you might also copy all the appropriate files from the folder to your existing sw folder, but i haven´t tested it and you surely would need a shell script to do that, since its like 5000 single files----imo that isn´t a good idea anyways since i didn´t include the folders fink, fink.old, include, src (merely to reduce the size of the file), which afaik are needed to keep a sane fink installation)
